REMIXZZ is all about....

A remix or is an alternative version of a song, different from the original version. A remixer uses audio mixing to compose an alternate master recording of a song, adding or subtracting elements, or simply changing the equalization, dynamics, pitch, tempo, playing time, or almost any other aspect of the various musical components. Some remixes involve substantial changes to the arrangement of a recorded work, but many are subtle, such as creating a "vocal up" version of an album cut that emphasizes the lead singer's voice. A song may be remixed to give a song that was not popular a second chance at radio and club play, or to alter a song to suit a specific music genreradio format. Remixes should not be confused with edits, which usually involve shortening a final stereo master for marketing purposes.

Roots of the remix

Since the beginnings of recorded sound in the late 19th century, certain people have enjoyed the ability to rearrange the normal listening experience with technology. With the advent of easily editable magnetic tape in the 1940s and 1950s, such alterations became more common. In those decades the experimental genre of musique concrète used tape loops of music and environmental sounds to create sound compositions that were the forerunners of electronic music. Less artistically lofty edits produced medleys or novelty recordings of various types.

Modern remixing had its roots in the dance hall culture of late-1960s/early-1970s Jamaica. The fluid evolution of music that encompassed ska, rocksteady, reggae and dub was embraced by local mixing wizards who deconstructed and rebuilt tracks to suit the tastes of their audience. Producers and engineers like Ruddy Redwood, King Tubby and Lee "Scratch" Perry popularized stripped-down instrumental mixes (which they called "versions") of reggae tunes. At first they simply dropped the vocal tracks, but soon more sophisticated effects were created, dropping separate instrumental tracks in and out of the mix, isolating and repeating hooks, and adding various effects like echo, reverberation and delay.

At the same time, DJs in early discotheques were performing similar tricks with disco songs (using loops and tape edits) to get dancers on the floor and keep them there. One noteworthy figure was Tom Moulton who invented the dance remix as we now know it. Though not a DJ (a popular misconception), Mr. Moulton had begun his career by making a home-made mix tape for a Fire Island dance club in the late 1960s. His tapes eventually became popular and he came to the attention of the music industry in New York City. At first Mr. Moulton was simply called upon to improve the aesthetics of dance-oriented recordings before release ("I didn't do the remix, I did the mix"—Tom Moulton). Eventually, he moved from being a "fix it" man on pop records to specializing in remixes for the dance floor. Along the way, he invented the breakdown section and the 12-inch single vinyl format. Walter Gibbons provided the dance version of the first commercial 12-inch single ("Ten Percent", by Double Exposure). Contrary to popular belief, Gibbons did not mix the record. In fact his version was a skillful re-edit of the original mix (paving the way for later editing greats such as John Morales and The Latin Rascals). Moulton, Gibbons and their contemporaries (Jim Burgess, Tee Scott, and later Larry Levan and Shep Pettibone) at Salsoul Records would prove to be the most influential group of remixers for the disco era. The Salsoul catalog is seen (especially in Great Britain and Europe) as being the "canon" for the disco mixer's art form. Pettibone is among a very small number of remixers whose work would successfully transition from the Disco era to the House era (he is certainly the most high profile remixer to do so). His contemporaries included Arthur Baker and Francois Kevorkian.

Contemporaneously to disco, in the mid-1970s, the Jamaican and Bronx remix cultures met, energizing both. Key figures included DJ Kool Herc and Grandmaster Flash. Cutting (alternating between duplicate copies of the same record) and scratching (manually moving the vinyl record beneath the turntable needle) became part of the culture, creating what Slate magazine called "real-time, live-action collage". One of the first mainstream successes of this style of remix was the 1983 track "Rockit" by Herbie Hancock, as remixed by Grand Mixer D.ST. Malcolm McLaren and the creative team behind ZTT Records would feature the "cut up" style of hip hop on such records as "Duck Rock

~~ WHAT IS THIS MTV ROADIES~~

MTV Roadies is an extremely popular reality television show aired on MTV India. It is currently in its fifth season. The show was created by Raghu Ram(Man Behind roadies in the image to right). The maximum prize for winning the show is Rs 500,000

Idea of the Show

MTV Hero Honda Roadies is a reality TV show aired on MTV. The inventor and the creator of the show is Raghu Ram (Executive Producer of MTV Roadies/judge). The main idea of the show is to test the creativity and the attitude of the person, who has got the survival instincts. Who can play his/her game in his/her own way.

Selection Procedure

Auditions are held in various major cities in India. People who show up for the audition are first separated by a group discussion. People who pass the group discussion are personally interviewed by one or more judges. This audition is deliberately acrimonious to test the participant's attitude. In the first two seasons 7 Roadies were selected. Since then, this number has been increased to 13. There is no limit as to how many times a person can audition. Currently season 5.0 is running and this time they have gone far i.e. "The game goes International". It will cover India, Thailand and then last Malaysia. The Auditions for this season has just been done by the panel of judges. 1. Raghu Ram who is the creator and the inventor of the show and 2. Nikhil Chinappa who is the VJ at MTV.

Format

Selected Roadies are given Hero Honda Karizma bikes to travel all over India on a pre-decided route. Season Five is the first time the game goes international.It will cover three countries which are India,Thailand and Malaysia. Roadies are given tasks at every destination. They are either Money or Immunity tasks. Roadies earn a particular amount of money on completion of a Money task. However,if they lose, this amount is deducted from the maximum prize. An Immunity task could be team based or individual where Roadies have to perform certain tasks to be immune from the next vote-out. A vote-out takes place each week where all the Roadies have to vote out one of the non-immune Roadies, thus eliminating him / her. The last Roadie standing is declared winner and takes away the grand prize.

Winners

The following are the winners of the telecasted seasons-

Season 1 There was no official winner this season as the point was to finish the journey alone. Rannvijay from this season went on to be a VJ with MTV

Season 2 Ayushman Khuranna from Chandigarh

Season 3 Parul Shahi from Delhi

Season 4 Anthony Yeh from Kolkata.

MTV Roadies - Recap of Season 4

Over the last few years, Indian television has witnessed the phenomena which has already made half of Americans dumb - Reality TV. Numerous ideas were presented and quite a few made it to the little screen. There are ones that sank without a trace and then ones that really becaome popular. MTV Roadies is one of those popular ones and was recently back in its season 4, with new and young faces, bubbling with energy and vigour & rearing to go for an India tour on their KARIZMAS’.

Hrithik Roshan with Roadies:

The original 13 roadies were selected through auditions conducted in some major cities of India by a panel of 3 judges which included VJ Nikhil Chinappa(in the image to left). The show tests the mental and the physical strengths and weaknesses of the contenders by subjecting them to deliberate tasks and competitiveness and hence lure them towards trying to collect more money as their prize. Shocks, surprises, fun, friendships, fear, bitching, backbiting, anxieties, etc all become the show and forms quite an adventurous and interesting reality watch, especially for the younger audience.

This season the tasks got increasingly interesting. There was Kalarippayattu - an ancient form of martial art, and the roadies have to use sword, shield, hair, bad breath against the masters. Sometimes they are racing in Keralite snake-boats, while at other times they are trying to be archers.

Hosted by VJ Rannvijay who was a former Roadie, and with a tag line "Jo Kameena wahi Sikandar", this show has a few other attractions too. Gulshan Grover made constant appearances as “Bad Man”, making life on the show more tough for the bunch of enthusiasts. Well known Item girl, Rakhi Sawant was also there for one of the episodes, trying her best to make the Roadies shake a leg.

IPL:Billion Dollar Baby

What is the Indian Premier League?
The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a franchise-based Twenty20 competition organised by the BCCI, and it has official sanction since it has the backing of the ICC. It features the world's best cricketers playing - their affiliation decided by open auction - for eight city-based franchises, owned by a host of businessmen and celebrity consortiums. The inaugural edition of the tournament will run from April 18 to June 1.

What are the logistics of the IPL?
The tournament will begin on April 18, when Bangalore take on Kolkata at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. The tournament will feature 59 matches in total, the teams playing each other on a home-and-away basis. Click here for the full list of fixtures:

http://content-www.cricinfo.com/ipl/content/series/313494.html?template=schedule

Why is the IPL generating such a buzz?
Two main reasons why. One the football-club concept of the IPL, which is unlike anything cricket has known. The best players from across the world playing not according to nationality but according to market forces. Second, the sheer financial scale of the IPL is unprecedented at this level of cricket. The BCCI has already made close to US$ 1.75 billion solely from the sale of TV rights ($908 million), promotion ($108 million) and franchises (approximately $700 million). Players are expected to earn close to US$1 million for a three-year contract. It's an entire cricket economy out there.

Who are the top cricketers involved?
There are 77 names in the fray, the top current players: Dhoni, Ponting, Gilchrist, Shoaib Akhtar, Jayawardene, Jayasuriya, Yuvraj, Hayden...The notable absentees are from England, because the IPL will clash with their domestic season, and Australia's Michael Clarke, who opted to focus on his regular cricket.

Who are the franchise owners - celebrities and others?

  • Mukesh ambani, the Reliance Industries chairman, acquired the Mumbai franchise for $111.9 million over a 10-year period;
  • Beer and airline baron Vijay Mallya, who also owns a Formula 1 team, won the Bangalore franchise for $111.6 million;
  • Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment won the Kolkata franchise for $75 million;
  • The biggest surprise was the Chandigarh franchise, which went to Preity Zinta, another Bollywood star, and Ness Wadia, together with two other industrialists, for $75 million.
  • Deccan chronicle won the Hyderabad franchise
  • Emerging Media (Manoj Badale, Lachlan Murdoch, Suresh Chellaram and investors) won the Jaipur franchise
  • GMR group won the Delhi franchise
  • India cements won the Chennai franchise
The winning team will get richer by $3 million if they win the first edition of the tournament.

How are the players paired with teams?
The BCCI will conduct a player auction on February 20, in which the respective franchises can bid for a maximum of eight international players from pool of 89 players who have been contracted to the board. But Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, and Yuvraj Singh are not up for auction as they have been given 'iconic' status by the BCCI - which means that they have to represent the city in which they are based. Another exception to the bidding process is with regard to the Australian players - a clause in the rules of Cricket Australia has meant that each team can select a maximum of two Australians.

Whose idea is the IPL?
The IPL is the brainchild of Lalit Modi, the vice-president of the BCCI, and is modeled along the lines of club football in Europe, specifically the English Premier League. Though there is a school of thought that the idea came about in the 1990s, the announcement that such a tournament would happen, and which it would be a precursor to Twenty20 Champions League, cricket's version of the European Champions League, came only after Subhash Chandra, the owner of Zee Televison said, in April last year, that he was intending to start an unofficial league called the Indian Cricket League, fuelling speculation that is was a reactive idea rather than a proactive one.

Who owns the IPL TV rights?

Sony Entertainment, a division of Japan’s Sony Corp, and the Asia-based World Sports Group (WSG) won the broadcast rights for ten years, worth more than a whopping US $1 billion. TV rights are worth $918 million, with $100 million set aside for promotion.

How different are the IPL and ICL to each other?
The IPL is an official sanctioned Twenty20 tournament, and unlike the ICL, which is not recognised by any of the national boards or the ICC, it will have a better status, international reach, players, and the requisite infrastructure by default. Since the IPL is sanctioned by the ICC, players don't have the danger of bringing their international/first-class careers to a halt - as is the case with the ICL - whose players have been banned by the various boards. Another major difference is with regard to franchises - the ownership of the team rests with the individual owners and not one single entity.
