3 Idiots - Overview

3 Idiots that's the working title of Rajkumar Hirani's next venture after his excellent and award winning work in Munna bhai M.B.B.S and Lage Raho Munna Bhai. The awesome director who made Gandhigiri a revolutnary concept in sync with Gen Next is expected to deliver a similar work in this project too. The film is loosely based on Chetan Bhagat's all-time best seller 'Five-Point Someone'. The book was a runway hit with youngsters making it the highest grossing English novel by an Indian.

The film about the drawbacks of the education system initially had Shah Rukh Khan penciled in for the lead. Matters, however, went awry when the star evinced an interest in producing the film that was being produced by Vinod Chopra Films but a few upheavals later, Hirani has come up tops with a stellar cast that includes Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor to be supported by Madhavan, Sharman Joshi and Boman Irani.

The film will be shot in Simla, Ladakh, Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore between September and December this year. "Each film comes with its own destiny," says Hirani philosophically about the change in cast, "It's the second time that a film with Shah Rukh has not worked out…perhaps some other time."

The story set in an engineering college (not IIT) has Hirani all excited. "The unfortunate truth is that the system forces people to pursue success rather than excellence. My belief is that if you pursue excellence, success is bound to follow."

Overview

The first shooting schedule of Vinod Chopra Films’ next mega venture 3 Idiots commenced in an aircraft with R. Madhavan on August 26. The next 20-day schedule will be held in Ladakh wherein lead pair Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor will participate.

Director Rajkumar Hirani, who is quite thrilled with the project says, “We are literally off to a flying start. It was amazing to shoot inside a real aircraft. We are really excited and raring to go. The film also stars Sharman Joshi and Boman Irani in pivotal roles and the story is loosely based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel Five Point Someone. The first teaser poster (on the top) of the film is out and has a huge blackboard with mathematical formulae scribbled on it. The poster was designed by Rahul Nanda.

The film has five pivotal characters:

The first character is Hari played by Madhavan who’s a shy boy and average in his studies. He falls in love with his professor’s daughter, Neha.

The second student is Ryan (Aamir). He is handsome and adventurous and he always says that he loves his friends more than his parents and he doesn’t want to mug up things since he gets low grades in the college exams.

Alok, who’s played by Sharman, wants to get good grades and earn money to overcome poverty

Kareena plays the role of Neha and Professor Kurien is played by Boman.

The film is produced by Chopra and written by Hirani and Abhijat Joshi.

Shantanu Malhotra has given the music for 3 idiots while the Lyrics are by Swanand Kirkire.

Hirani could take a bow only that being true to his trademark low-key demanour, he would rather wait till the movie gets a thumbs-up from the audiences.
